MP struck by ‘fantastic environment’ on academy visit Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle-Price has pledged her support to Ormiston Park Academy after visiting students and staff at the academy yesterday. She toured lessons at the academy’s new £32m building with senior leaders from the academy and the sponsor Ormiston Academies Trust, before taking high tea with students, who gave speeches and took the opportunity to ask her questions about being an MP. MP Jackie Doyle-Price said: “I greatly enjoyed my visit to Ormiston Park Academy. It is clear that the school is making great advances and offering a fantastic environment in which to learn. I was struck by the energy, enthusiasm and pride of the students and I look forward to working with the school to make it the best it can be” Principal Huw Derrick said: “We are really pleased that our local MP was able to take the time to visit the academy, particularly as we have recently celebrated a rise in our GCSE results. Our students were enthralled and delighted to have the opportunity to quiz her on current political issues and the role she personally plays in government. “We give a big thank you to Jackie who has kindly offered our students a visit to Westminster to experience first-hand parliament in action.” Student Cameron Root aged 12 said: “I was honoured that the local MP came to my school. We are very proud of our school and the support we get from our teachers. “We have a great building and facilities which we like to share with our community. I think Mrs Jackie Doyle-Price was impressed and enjoyed her time with us at Ormiston Park Academy, she has invited us to go and visit her next time.”
